A Patchwork Life

Well we just returned from Retta'a fathers funeral. It was wonderful!. I know that sounds odd but it was a true celebration of a man's life and not a fixation on his families loss. As we reviewed and watched and related his life's stories I realised that we all create our own life quilts made up of all the patches of events and experiences that we define as we live. I am sure some of us would love our quilt pieces and some would loath them but I truly believe that a life lived well is God's greatest gift to us and to our loved ones. We shared the laughter the tears the joys and successes and also the failures and hardships that make up one man's life and our own lives as well.Build your patchwork life carefully so that at the end you can stand proud and happy before both God and family.

Beautiful, Bob. It was great to have you, Loretta, Meghan and Lily here. Lily is such a doll. She knew everything that was going on around her. She didn't miss a thing. Marie, Barb and Sue stopped in this morning to see the house and say goodbye. Dad had one advantage, he probably could watch everything.

What a wonderful analogy Bob. I'm impressed!! It was for me and my family (those that could attend) a fantastic experience...celebrating life! Stephanie said 'It was the best family gathering we have EVER had!' And as you know we've had a lot of those. Don't know if you heard but when we met that morning after at Shoney's the waitress' name was Charlie! Just a little note from Dad saying...I'm still here and still love you all!

I like that, Dad. Very nice to think about it like that.
